Porcelain Paper Butterfly Coffee Mug Tags

I am back with my second project for day 2 of the

I made this coffee mug layered tag with a porcelain paper butterfly.
I started by stamping the mug onto rose patterned paper.

I colored the "gaps" on the cup with copper ink pen. I added highlights with white acrylic paint and I took a brown marker to color the "coffee" in the cup.
I stamped the mug 3 more times on white cardstock and glued all the layers together so that it has sturdiness.
I next stamped butterfly from

I colored and fussy cut the butterfly on the left. I stamped it 3 more times on white cardstock and 1 more time on black cardstock. I then flooded the top with Aleene's tacky glue. It took several hours to dry. So I had to be patient and drink several cups of coffee while I waited.

While I waited for it to dry, I used
to cut out some tags. One of white cardstock and one from the scraps left over from the cup.
I stamped  sentiment on white cardstock using

The tags are layered on top of the mug. I punched a hole in the mug and tied all the tags to the mug with twine.

Coffee Lovers Bloghop Stacked Tea Cups

Here is my first  project for the

I made a little porcelain paper pin.

I used

I stamped on floral dp and fussy cut the cups out.
Then I put drops of glue on my acetate folder to hold the pieces down. Then I "flooded" the pieces with Aleene's tacky glue. This is a fun technique to do but you have to have  ton of patience. This project took 12 hrs to complete.

While the individual cups were drying,I worked on the base of the pin.  I stamped the image again onto white cardstock 3 times and onto black once. I fussy cut them out and glued the 3 white layers to the black one, with the black one on the bottom. That is so that it has a finished looking back. When the individual cups dried, I glued them to the base. I "trimed" each cup with gold acrylic paint.  For the back of the pin, I took just a plain safety pin and put strips of black  cardstock over it to hold it to the base.

I really like how the gold paint finished the pin off.

Here is a photo of me wearing the pin.

I am going to give a stacked teacup pin to one of the people who leaves a comment on this post.  If you would like to order this stamp or any other STAMPlorations stamp, you can use the discount code below when checking out.

Stencil Sunday double tag with dragonfly

I started my double tag project by stenciling with

I colored it with a marker, sprayed with water and placed on cardstock.
I did it several times with different colors of marker each time.

This is the result. I used this paper to make tags and dragonfly.

I put a layer tulle in between the dragonfly layers and added glue and glitter.

I stamped and colored

I did burned glue technique. I put a generous amount of
Aleene's tacky glue to the center of the flower.

After the glue was burned I colored it with a sharpie marker.

There is still time to join our May Mixed Media Challenge.

Image may contain: food
is a color challenge: pastels.

I had a lot of fun making this tag. I used stencils and markers to make the cotton candy looking background. I glued aluminum foil to cardboard for the liner. I cut the cupcake out of pink and added glitter for sugar.

John 14:6

No card today, just some thoughts about John 14:6

Yesterday the  youth at church were asked to share how they would tell others why Jesus is not just "A way" to heaven but the "ONLY way". They put
John 14:6 in their own words.
Here is what John 14:6 says
Jesus, answered,
 "I am the way
 and the truth
 and the life.
 No one comes
 to the Father
 except through me."

A week ago, our preacher taught on 1 Peter 3:15 which says
But in you hearts honor Christ the Lord
as holy, always being prepared to make a
defense to anyone who asks you for a
reason for the hope that is in you,
yet do it with gentleness and respect.

I know that for me it helps me be prepared if I write things down. So I am going to attempt to share some of the thoughts I had about John 14:6.

There are different types of roads. There are smooth four lane highways and there are narrow country dirt roads. What determines which roads to take? For me I take the roads that get me where I want to go. A four lane highway might be easy and nice to drive, but if I take it, and it isn't going anywhere near my destination, I have wasted my time and I am "lost". While driving on a freeway before, I have missed my exit and ended up driving miles in the wrong direction before I could turn around and get to the "right" road.

How do you know which road is the "right" road. Well, if you are going somewhere that you have never been before you can hope that you will just somehow find the way there or you can ask for directions.  But you have to be careful in who you trust for directions.

When my husband and I were on our honeymoon, I attempted to give him directions. We were visiting San Diego, CA. I had been there several times with my family growing up and I thought I could give him directions to the beach. Well, we got to a beach, but not the one I wanted to take him too. I took him to dog beach. Which is like the name says, a beach where dogs were allowed, and not everyone picked up after their dogs if you know what I mean. It was not the nice beautiful beach I had been telling him about. I had gotten us lost. Ever since then when I think I know where I am going my husband will say "Are you dog beaching me again?" It is our family joke.
About 2 years ago, my son was going to a jazz band competition. He wanted to ride the bus there, but wanted me to drive him home. So going there I just followed the bus, but for coming home I had printed directions off of google maps so that I could navigate our way home. We got to Ottumwa, IA, and even trying to read the directions we got lost. It didn't help that is was snowing and dark outside. We drove around lost for what seemed like forever before we found the right road that would lead us home. Which we found just on our own not because of help from the directions.
Since I have never been to heaven, and that is my desired destination, I need to get directions. Do I want to trust just anyone to tell me how to get there? It is too important to me, I don't want to get lost on the way. What better person to give directions than someone who has already been there. Jesus left heaven to come to Earth, so I can trust him. I believe Jesus is the son of God and that what he says is the truth.
There are people who say "It doesn't matter what you believe. if you are a good person you will go to heaven." How reliable are these directions? Jesus says that no one comes to the Father except through me. Jesus doesn't say that he is A way he is the ONLY way.
This got me to thinking about toll roads. Where driving on the road costs you money. I have a friend who found out the hard way what happens when you pass an unmanned toll booth and don't have the correct amount of change. He drove through anyway and what would have cost him only a couple of dollars turned into a big fine. I don't have enough $ to pay to be on the road to heaven. None of us do. It was a price only Jesus could pay and he paid it for us. All we have to do when we come to the toll booth is to say, "Jesus paid it all for me."
Once on the "right" road, THE WAY to heaven, we will see others who are on different roads. We should try to tell them and let them know that they are going the wrong way. They may not listen to us but we should make every effort to warn them.

It made me think of the movie "Planes, trains and automobiles." Where they are driving the wrong direction on the freeway. Passengers in a car going the other right way try to motion to them that they are driving the wrong way.

Usually our mixed media challenges are anything goes. This month however there is a theme. THINGS WITH WINGS.

You can link up as many winged-themed mixed media project as you want as long as each project (NO CARDS)  uses a stencil and is a separate blog post.
You can use non STAMPlorations products, but if you have kids who ask what they can get you for Mother's day, you can share your STAMPlorations wish list with them.
Prizes:$15 gift certificate for the winner -voted on by design team. And two randomly chosen winners will get a $5 gift certificate.

I am excited to share my project with you. The church I go to is having their banquet to honor women this weekend. Separate from Mother's day because not everyone has the opportunity to have children. We are having our banquet to honor women. Our theme is flowers. I made a little scripture easel decoration to go on the table that I'm decorating.

I used the following:

My table for the luncheon was sunflower themed. I used
STAMPlorations Sketched Suflower.
I die cut circles and stamped the sunflowers with black stazon ink. I water colored the sunflowers and then added gold glitter glue to the centers.

Do you see the little topper?

A photo of all the tables
Local 4-H group helped prepare the food.

The desserts were so yummy.
A local florist and her granddaughters came and gave a floral arranging demonstration.

With Mother's day coming up. I know that we all know someone who is going to be sad. Maybe they lost their mother, or child or have never been able to have children, or have a sick or a rebellious child. What ever it maybe I want to encourage you as well as myself to be aware of these ladies and extend a little extra love and kindness. Is there a random act of kindness that you can do for them?
