Philippians 4:13

I can do ALL things through CHRIST who strengthens me...
The Stampin' Sisters in Christ challenge was to make an encouragment card. I made this card using the faux tile technique which is today's TLC301 at SCS. I made this with a special stampin' sister in mind. I used Layers of Color for the butterfly and for the background flourish.

1Thessalonians 5:16-18

This bookmark, trifold, quilled, scripture... card was for TLC300. The challenge was to use at least 2 older TLC challenges. I used 18 on this card. This is for the Stampin' Sisters in Christ challenge as well. The paper that I used for this card was 2 pieces of 8 1/2 by 11 white cardstock and 1/4 sheet of brown cardstock. I love making a card that doesn't even remotely resemble how it started out. The Stampin' Sisters in Christ challenge was to make a card showing God how thankful we are. I used these verses because they definitely speak THANKSGIVING to me. I especially love verese 18 because it reminds me that it isn't just a good idea to be thankful, it is God's will that I be thankful.

Quilled Snowflake Thank You Card

The free for all challenge at Splitcoast was to make a card to have on hand to thank a hostess who is especially generous to you. I made this for my senior pastor's wife, Ethel. She works so hard each year to host our annual Thanksgiving meal at the church's fellowship hall. She spends hours decorating, planning, cooking and cleaning up afterwards. She has such a servant's heart and doesn't do this for man's praise or thanks, but she definitely deserves to be thanked! I used the sentiment stamp from Mark's Finest Papers - THANKFUL MUMS AND PUMPKINS set. I stamped it randomly on a piece of dp that I got several years ago from the dollar store. I zig zag stitched the panels to the card. The ornament is attached by a piece of thread that is taped to the back of the top 2 panels. It can easily be removed.

Quilled Snowflake Tutorial

I started with a piece of white cardstock that was 5 1/2" by 8 1/2". I used the W.I.S.H. technique on the cardstock and let it dry.

I cut the piece of cardstock into pieces that were 1/4" by 4 1/4". You will end up with 44 pieces. That is enough to make 2 ornaments.

I take an acetate report folder. I put a big puddle of glue and a small dot of glue. I use Aleene's tacky glue because it holds the cardstock fairly fast.

This is a quilling tool. It has a notch on one end. Slide the end of the strip of paper into that slot and roll the paper around the tool.

This is what it looks like rolled around the tool.

I take an opened paper clip to dip into the glue. I put a dot of glue at the end.

Hold for a few seconds until the glue starts to hold. This shape is called a "COIL".

I place the coil onto the drop of glue on the folder.

Take 6 more strips. Roll the paper as you would to make a coil, but before you add the glue, pinch one side. This makes a "TEAR DROP" shape.

Add 6 little drops of glue to the folder around the coil. Put them at 12 o'clock, 2, 4,6,8 and 10.

Dip the pointed end of the tear drops into the glue.

Put the tear drop onto the folder. Making sure that there is contact between the tear drops and the coil.

This is what it looks like with the 6 tear drops.

Take 6 more strips of the paper. Fold each one in half. Roll the strips just to before the fold. Roll them so that the coils go to the outside.

This is the result.

Dip the pointed end into the glue.

Slide it into the snowflake at 1 o'clock, 3,5,7,9, and 11.

This is how the snow flake will look.

Take 6 more strips. Fold them in half. This time roll the coils to the middle. These will look kinda like hearts.

Dip the rolled ends into the glue.

Take rolled ends and place next to the rolled ends of the snowflake.

Take 3 more strips. Cut them in half. Take those 6 smaller strips and make them into tear drops.
Dip the end of the tear drops, rounded ends into the glue.

Place the little tear drops at the ends.

I then add little glass beads.

I use the paper clip to put the glue onto the snowflake.

Place the beads into the glue.

For that extra sparkle I add glitter. I use the paper clip to randomly add glue to the snowflake. I then sprinkle the whole snowflake with the glitter.

When it is dry I use a butter knife, kinda like a spatula to loosen the snowflake from the folder. I add a piece of raffia to hang. I have also used twine and wire to make the hangers.

It takes me about 1/2 hour to make my snowflake. (When I'm not stopping every few minutes to take a photo!)

Beautiful Brown

Today's splitcost challenge was to use brown. I made two brown cards. The first one has a brown quilled snowflake ornament. The second one, I thought had a country feeling. I made the second one for my sister in law. She lost her husband last year in November. I wanted to make a card for her as we get close to that unhappy anniversary.

Learners for Life try their hands at W.I.S.H.ing

This is one of the girls in my learners for life group. At our Tuesday meeting we made Thanksgiving cards using Mark's Finest Papers Thankful for you set. We also used the W.I.S.H. technique. Can you tell how much fun we had?Posted by Picasa

WISH Technique

If you want to watch video, scroll down to bottom and mute my radio worship or you will have overlapping music. I'm sorry, but I am not technical enough to know how to fix it. Sorry that it isn't the best of quality. Maybe Santa will bring me a video camera this year!

I have a better video now with higher def.

I want to share with you my favorite technique. I call it the W.I.S.H. technique. It stands for watermark, ink, spray and hold. I formally called it the ink spray smash technique, but I.S.S. sounded like something a snake would do. I like this technique for 3 reasons. It is EASY, CHEAP and FUN.
How easy is it? I have taught it to 6 year olds and they were able to do it on their own after seeing it done once.
How cheap is it? There are no special supplies to buy. Most stampers will have them in their homes already.
How fun is it? I think it is a blast to see a white piece of paper turn into a unique creation. Each time I do this technique I get a different look no matter what.

What supplies do you need?
ziplock bag
scissors
markers (watersoluble- I use cheap Crayola markers)
stamp
ink pad
water bottle
piece of white cardstock

Directions:
Stamp image on white cardstock using ink pad.
Cut the top and sides off of the ziplock bag.
Open bag and lay flat on table.
Scribble with markers on the bag.
Spray one side of the bag with water.
Fold bag together and let the marker ink mix.
Open and lay the cardstock, image down on the bag.
Hold for a few seconds to let the ink absorb.
If you want more color, repeat on other side of bag.
Let the cardstock dry and create.

Mark’s Finest Papers - http://marksfinestpapers.blogspot.com

I wanted to make a Christmas card with non-traditional colors. I used ink, spray, smash technique for the top panel. I stamped the musical score for Silent Night. I used the trees and sentiment from Mark's Finest Papers -Walk in the Woods set. I burned the edges of the purple panel. I added lace and the music note from the musical holiday set. I used my sewing machine to stitch the edges. I used my scalloped scissors to finish the edges. I added ribbon, wire and beads.
