Mix monochromatic card

This card is a MIX CARD. Not just because it was for the Splitcoast Stampers Mixed Media (MIX 61). I used a mixture of challenges as well. I used (SC481) altered a little, (WT472) to make a tall card for March Madness. It is also for Word Art Wednesday (WAW125) and (F4A214) to have a background with circles.
I started with the background which was an encyclopedia page. I glued 3 layers of teal tissue paper. I then did faux barn board technique over the top of that with white acrylic paint. I then took another piece of cardstock and I used 3 different sizes of circle punches. I randomly punched them. I used that cardstock as a stencil to apply silver inka gold metallic rub. I then took another page from the encyclopedia. I punched 3 different flowers and leaves. I added turquoise ink to them and glued them to the encyclopedia page. I then put drywall tape over the top. I then covered the leaves, flower and tape with glue and a single sheet of the tissue paper. When it was dried I cut out the shape using nestabilites and cuttlebug. I rubbed more of the silver inka gold over the top. The long skinny panel was done by taking gray textured cardstock and using my embossing folder and cuttlebug. I added glue to the top and tore pieces of the tissue paper and randomly placed them over the gray. I then went over the embossing with more silver inka gold. I finished it off with brads, wire, beads, charm and a teal ribbon.  It is a card that was hard to photo graph. It looks kinda flat here but there is so much texture, and the silver shines as it catches the light.

No line pierced butterfly birthday card for Kelsey

I made this card for a girl at church who plays on the worship team with me. I made it using the no line piercing technique for TLC474. I used buttons for WT471 and I used encyclopedia page on my collage for MIX60.  I used the image from MFP set called Family. I stamped a butterfly on the back. I then pierced the butterfly. I painted the inside of the butterfly with white paint. But it was too bright so I went over it with painting copper inka gold. Then it was too dark so I went around the edges with white paint and a paper clip that I kept dipping into the paint to make dots. I put the inka gold on the buttons. They started out being yellow. I added some of my handmade flowers. and some copper net ribbon that I bought last week as my splurge.

Taking something I disliked and turning it into something loved

I will admit that I am a hoarder. Why else would I keep designer paper for years that I hated. I have had this paper for about 9 years. I like the colors but the design just doesn't fit my style. So it has been sitting in a drawer of paper waiting. It must have been hard waiting that long to be used, especially when some of friends got picked. Today for the SCS sketch challenge, SC480 I knew I wanted to faux barn board technique to look like a wooden fence as a back drop for my poppies. I wanted a little bit of color and design showing through and I wasn't too particular about it, so I pulled this paper out and added shoe polish, glue and paint.
Well, I really liked how the end result turned out. In fact you could say I loved it. I loved it so  much that I really didn't want to cover it up. So for the small panel in the sketch I used a piece of vellum with the word "love" printed on it. That way you can still see the faux barn board behind it. I did paper tole on my poppies. I water colored them and cut them out. I made a poppy card yesterday and put a butterfly on it. Today I took the scraps from that butterfly, (the left wings) and made another butterfly for this card.
Here is a close up so you can see the dimension of the butterfly and the poppies. You can also see the center of the big poppy. I did burned glue for the center. There is texture that makes it look almost real.

This is the card I made yesterday with the same set using the colors for the SCS color challenge.

My daughter got invited to a baby shower this weekend for the cousin of her boyfriend. She wanted a special card for the occasion. Since the gender of this precious little one is unknown to us at this time, I went with yellow, pink and blue for this card. I used up some of my handmade flowers. I wasn't going to place them exactly where they are now. I had a different plan, but these flowers had a mind of their own and when you are hot gluing them to your card, if they decide to go to an unplanned location that is where they stay. I actually liked their idea better than mine.

This was a very hard set for me to use.  As a Christian, I don't see Buddha as anything more than a man. I do admire that he was searching for "The Truth", but I am sad that he never got to know the truth.

John 14:6

New International Version (NIV)
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
I made a little box to hold bags of tea. I made a band that holds the box closed. On that band I put the oriental lady from this set. I paper pieced her. I added touches of gold. I imagine that she is holding a cup of tea. I used another MFP set called Asian Delights to stamp the symbol for Hope. I colored around the edges with gold. I stamped this symbol because of a line from an old hymn. by Edward Mote in 1834:
My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly trust in Jesus’ Name.

I was listening to this song today as I worked on my project. I loved hearing the children's voices.
