Enjoy the Hop. Come back each day and let us take you to the Beach. We hope to inspire you to start your own Fun in the Sun.  Get to work on the tutorials, show us what you made by Feb. 12th and check back on Feb. 13, 2016 to see if you are a winner.

For my card I used MFP set - Island Life
I tried a new technique called coffee painting, where you actually paint with coffee. I stamped the image with Vintage Photo distress ink. I then started painting. I used white prisma colored pencil on left side of the light house tower and on the sails of the boat. I wanted to make sure that they stayed white and I was hoping the wax from the pencil would resist the coffee.

What I learned from trying this technique, is I lack patience. To get shading, I had to add layer upon layer drying in between each layer.

When I do this technique again, I will have several projects going at once so I can rotate between the different ones while the coffee dries.

I stamped this as a sample for this week's splitcoaststampers mixability challenge. With the ink, coffee and colored pencil, that would have been 3 different mediums, but I decided to add more.

I decided to add black ink pen. I just traced over the lines from the stamp, but I didn't do everyone.

I like the way that one step made it look. Probably the most CAS mixed media card I have ever made. It was fun to try this new technique.

Enjoy the Hop. Come back each day and let us take you to the Beach. We hope to inspire you to start your own Fun in the Sun.  Get to work on the tutorials, show us what you made by Feb. 12th and check back on Feb. 13, 2016 to see if you are a winner.

I used SUN and MOON stamp set for my card, because when I think of the beach, I think warm sun.  This mixed media card was a creative journey. A stamping conversation that I read the other day someone asked if the group "knew" how the finished project would look when they started. My answer to that question is I never know.

I wanted to try a technique called double embossed resist.
Since I didn't know how it would turn out I decided to start with some scraps, so if I didn't like how it looked I wouldn't feel bad if I had to throw it in the trash. This is the scrap I used. It had originally been white cardstock that I ink spray smashed with purple and blue markers. Once it was dry I stamped random parts of various stamps with black ink. I dry embossed with a swirls embossing folder. I then I rubbed over the raised parts with a versamark ink pad and heat embossed with clear UTEE.  Then I used distressed ink. A lot of  distress ink.

When it dried I really didn't like how it turned out. I almost threw it in the trash.  This next photo shows what it looked like.

I wondered if I could lighten the distress ink. So I took the whole piece and held it under running water. That helped me like it a little better, but it still felt kinda blah...

So I decided to add some inka gold metallic rub.

What a difference the added gold made. I stamped the sun image and embossed with gold ep. Yesterday when I used the stencil and gold spray for my background there was a lot of the spray on the stencil, I didn't want it to go to waste so I had a piece of gold cardstock that I placed the stencil on.
So had these parts but I wasn't sure how I wanted to put them together.

So I played around and took photos along the way. I sent the photos to my friend Pam who would give me a thumbs up or a thumbs down on what to do.

The finished card after spraying the cheesecloth with gold spray, and added gold sparkly-glittery washi tape, glass beads on gold wire and a twine bow. I did fussy cutting on the sun, added blue prisma colored pencils for the eyes. I also added white acrylic paint to the eyes stars and lips of the sun. The sun is popped up with two buttons glued underneath to add depth. I love how this card turned out, but I had no idea it was going to look like this when I started.

Here are some close up photos to show the details. With all the gold it was hard to photograph.

Thanks for reading all the way to the end of my rather long post.I hope you were inspired by the glimpse into my creative journey. Entering this card in these challenges:

For my card I used a stencil with waves pattern and gold spray on dark brown dp.  You can see the gold waves on the top right hand corner of this photo.

I stamped the beach image on dp with black stazon ink. I colored the image with prisma colored pencils that I blended with baby oil. I added twine, cheese cloth and brads to finish it off.

For my card I used MFP set called Sand Dollar mini

I started by gluing layers of a paper bag together. I stamped the sand dollar using black stazon ink. I cut it out.

You can see how many layers there were here.

After I cut it out I shaped the sand dollar over my finger.

I sprayed gold onto a piece of cheesecloth. It was really shiny.

My card used this week's Monday Mojo Sketch.

I finished it into an easel card, because I love that the finished card has it's own stand.

Vintage Valentine

The color combo today on Splitcoaststampers was a dark pink light pink and orange. I used three markers those colors to dye the tissue paper flowers. I used this week's mojo sketch  MOJO431

I made a vintage Valentine easel card.

I am entering this in the Great Impressions Challenge for January to make a Valentine.

Gate fold Valentine

The TLC-569 at Splitcoaststampers today was to make a gate-fold card.

I decided to play along. I made mine a vintage Valentine.
