STAMPlorations Stencil Sunday- Explore rock

I used ARTplorations MERRY GO ROUND stencil

STAMPlorations BOLD SENTIMENTS- EXPLORE

preview-STAMPlorations-Explore
and

stmp1004-a.jpeg

I used the stencil to apply gold paint to a rock that I had picked up from a creek bed. I stamped the sentiment and mixed media backgrounds with black stazon ink. I also added drops of gold paint. Because the rock didn't have a super smooth surface some of the sentiment needed to be filled in with a black sharpie marker. I really like how this turned out. I had originally thought I would go to the park and leave the rock there to share random art with someone, but I'm having a hard time letting it go. At least for now it is going to sit on my desk as I think of new ways to explore making art.

Today on the STAMPlorations blog I share a tutorial on making a mixed media easel ATC. Come check it out HERE.

sympathy card

The MIX-ability challenge for this week is to incorporate a look that resembles gold leafing. I ink spray smashed white cardstock. I dry embossed and used gold metallic rub to make it look like gold leaf.  I also sprayed the cardstock with gold spray. I stamped STAMPabilities mini mixed media stamp set on base. I made this as a sympathy card for my friend Pam. Her sister died this week. I wanted her to know that I wish her love, hope peace and joy for the days to come.

Last day for GROWING IN UNITY - Miracles Happen

Wow, can't believe this week is over. I have been having too much fun sharing GROWING IN UNITY with you. My last project has special meaning to me. The image I used was Phyllis Harris image. MIRACLES HAPPEN
When you look up Miracles in the dictionary you should see a picture of my niece Abby. She is truly a miracle. Shortly after birth we found out that Abby was going to be different from most children. Drs. weren't sure if she would be able to walk and they weren't very hopeful that she would learn to talk. But by persistent work by my sister and by Abby, and especially with God's help she is proving the doctors wrong. She can walk, and she can talk. She will probably have severe struggles the rest of her life, but there is one thing that you can say about her, is she has a heart of love. She loves people and she loves God. She gets super excited just to get to go to church. This image reminds me so much of Abby so I had to make it into a card to send to her.

I hope it is a reminder to all of us to be thankful for the little miracles that we have in our lives that we might not even be aware of or that we might so easily take advantage of.
Thanks for visiting my blog this week. You have until the end of today to leave a comment on my cards to have the chance to win UNITY stamps. I will pick the winner and announce them tomorrow on my blog.

Easel ATC - Christmas with buttons

The MIX-ability challenge this week is to add buttons to the project. I felt like celebrating Christmas in July. My air conditioner at my office died so I had to THINK cold to get through. I took scraps of paper and decopauged the base of my ease; ATC. I also did it on a piece of scrap that I was going to make the tag out of.

I stamped the tag shape from Holiday tags set (MFP) with black stazon on the separate decopauged scrap.

I finished my easel ATC with burlap, buttons strung on twine, and quilled pine cones. I added white acrylic paint to the pine cones and rolled them in glitter.

MFP sets I used:

This photo shows how the easel looks.

I am going to enter this in Dragonflies Journey's Challenge # 65
(make a Christmas project)

Growing in Unity day 4- Miracle of Light and Dark

Today is my fourth day for GROWING IN UNITY. Wow, how the week is flying by. For my card today I choose Phyllis Harris MIRACLE OF LIGHT AND DARK
I love this image of  fireflies or lightning bugs depending on where you live   It makes me think of when I was little and my family went to visit my Great Grandma Ruth and Great Grandpa Lige. My brother and sisters and I would try to catch them. We put them in jars and watched them as we fell asleep. To us they were magical because we didn't have any of them in the southwest where we lived. I had almost forgotten the joy of fireflies until my niece came to visit this summer. She is 6 and had never seen fireflies. She was thrilled and so excited to try and catch some. I made this card to send to her to remind her of the joy of simple things. By the way her name is JOY.
I water colored the image and added some details with prisma colored pencils. I also added glitter to the fireflies. I put her name on the side with faux scrabble tiles.
Close up to show the glitter.
Don't forget to leave a comment on my cards this week for a chance to win UNITY stamps. Come back tomorrow to see my last project for GROWING IN UNITY.

Growing in Unity day 3 - Happy Birthday- Here today Here tomorrow

Today I'm half way through my GROWING IN UNITY week.
The card I'm sharing today used an ITTY BITTY stamp  HERE TODAY HERE TOMORROW
It is just a little stamp set but it is probably one of my all time favorite stamps. I just love the little butterfly. A few weeks ago on social media a story was shared about a young autistic girl who wanted a birthday party, but not one person showed up. Her sister shared a photo of her crying at her birthday party. Her sister made a plea to have people send her cards this year to make it a special birthday. This story really touched my heart. I have a son who is on the spectrum, and I know that her story could have been his. So I wanted to make an over the top fun card for her.
Here is the outside of the card. I used a dp that had butterflies and flowers on it. I added pearls, ribbon and lace.

I put wink of stella (gold) on the centers of the flowers and butterflies to make them sparkle.
The inside of the card is a pop-up card. The back pop up I used the dp. The front pop-ups I made plain and added the stamped, and colored and fussy cut out butterflies. I also added butterflies to the base that didn't pop-up.
I had a HAPPY BIRTHDAY sentiment stamp that I received in a UNITY grab bag.

I would really like to hear what you think about this card. Leave me a comment and you will have the chance to win some UNITY stamps.
Come back tomorrow to see what else I have created with UNITY stamps.

Growing in Unity day 2 -Every Breath

My second day for GROWING IN UNITY.
I used  Phyllis Harris image EVERY BREATH

The card I made yesterday the image reminded me of my oldest daughter. This image however reminded me of you younger daughter. She loved finding dandelions to blow. When she was a senior in High School she wrote an essay about graduating and used imagery of dandelion seeds scattering in the wind to portray the way the students in her class were going to go their separate ways. It makes me smile to think about her writing this. I watercolored the image. I die cut the image and added glitter to the dandelion. I added brads, lace and dp that had French writing on it. The French writing also reminded me how she lived in a French house in college where they were only allowed to speak French when in the house.

Here is a close up, so you can see the glitter on the dandelion.
Make sure you comment on all my cards the week for the chance to win UNITY stamps. I hope you will come back tomorrow to see what I have created.

Growing in Unity day 1 -Let love fly

Today is the first of 5 days that I will be sharing GROWING IN UNITY.  Last week I was thinking UNITY is just what our country really craves. With all the craziness, it is nice to sit down and create art and find a moment of peace. I made a card using Phyllis Harris image:

I water colored the image and then added accents with prisma colored pencils. I took a black pen and added some lines to the butterfly net. A couple of coordinating cardstock mats are all I needed to make this CAS card. This little girl reminded me of my oldest daughter when she was little. She loved bugs. We went butterfly tagging where butterflies were caught and little tags were put on their wings so that their flight pattern could be determined by the conservationists.

Make sure you come back to my blog for the next few days to see what I have created using UNITY STAMPS.
If you leave a comment on my cards this week you might have the chance to win some UNITY stamps to enjoy yourself.

Not quite Notan

The MIX-ability challenge for Splitcoast is to do Japanese Notan art.
The definition for Notan is:
The combination of lights and darks especially as used in Japanese art :  the design or pattern of a work of art as seen in flat areas of dark and light values only

I started by taking a piece of black cardstock. I taped a flower die and two different butterfly dies.

To make mine with a mixed media twist, instead of white for the contrasting light color, I took a piece of white cardstock and ink spray smashed it with blues and brown markers. I ended up using the flower die 3 times. I punched two black circles. One I kept whole for the center flower and the other I cut in half to go with the top and bottom flowers. I used a corner punch in the 4 corners. I added some more punched circles. I felt like it was still a little too plain for me. So I used some embossing folders. I used a folder that had a circle. I also used a thin strip folder.

After I embossed the card, I stamped the MIXED MEDIA stamp set from STAMPlorations. I added the music notes to each corner. Then I took gold metallic rub and went over the embossed areas.
I made my card into an easel card. I added a strip of black cardstock and a strip of the ink spray smashed cardstock to the inside.
